Flash Player 10.1 What's New


Improvements

  • Easy handling of errors using Global error handler: Flash player 10.1 will enable developers to use single error handler to catch all runtime errors.
  • Globalization API: to make flash player use preferences selected in operating system to process information. For e.g Datetime display format, Currency, String comparison, Sorting etc,
  • Performance improvement :Fast startup, Less CPU Usage, Improved rendering, Better memory management for low memory devices , Hardware acceleration for video and graphics, Better Scripting engine, Less power consumption hence enhanced battery life.
  • Multi-touch support: Flash Player 10.1 has brought this feature to enable user to interact with multiple object simultaneously. Along with this the native gestures will also be supported like scroll , pinch, scale , zoom, tapping etc.
  • Virtual Keyboard support: If no physical keyboard is detected, Flash Player 10.1 will automatically show a virtual keyboard while editing text.
  • Accelerometer support: Since most of the mobile devices use accelerometer sensors. Flash player 10.1 provides accelerometer class to get input use it for screen orientation etc.
Improvements for Mobiles

  • Screen orientation changes like screen modes, Keyboard layout can be automated.
  • Optimized SWF playback and loading: Auto pause flash player when application minimized, load swf files according to priority set by developer in HTML.
  • Sleep mode: Flash player switches to sleep mode when mobile is in screen saver mode to reduce power consumption.
  • Rendering engine improvements: New vector renderer is GPU based which means fast rendering and less power consumption. It supports hardware acceleration for rendering.
  • H.264 video hardware decoding: To improve rendering swf frame rate will be reduced if required.
  • Browser privacy mode: Better control on user privacy.
Improvements for Desktop 

  • Private browsing mode for better privacy handling of local shared objects. Supported by most browsers.
  • Memory Management: Flash player 10.1 will close instances of swf files running, if memory exceeds limit rather than crashing browser. A message will be displayed to restart SWF file in such cases.
  • Improved Media Content Delivery: With HTTP streaming and content protection content can be securely delivered. Peer networking, buffer and events are also improved for media streaming. Improvement for smooth playback and better user experience are also added.
  • Content protection: Protected content delivery using Adobe Flash Access 2.0 SDK (should be available in first quarter of 2010) using cryptography.
  • Peer assisted networking: Creation of groups for RTMFP possible now in flash player 10.1. So multicasts can be accessed by groups only.
  • Access to Raw microphone data: No need to send data to FMS server for recording now. Raw audio data can be processed on client side. Also good for disconnected type of applications.
